The Numbering Assistant’s MSCD Schemes Revised; Also, New Templates Posted

MSCD 3.38 invites readers to request a free 30-day trial of the Numbering Assistant, the paragraph-numbering tool developed by Payne Consulting Group that allows you to quickly and simply apply one of the two flavors of the MSCD enumeration scheme to any contract in Word.

Well, Payne Consulting Group is finally in a position to respond to any such requests, because the Numbering Assistant has now been revised to update the built-in MSCD schemes to reflect recommendations contained in the second edition. Specifically, applying the Numbering Assistant’s MSCD schemes will result in your document using Calibri, the new Microsoft typeface that I’ve fallen for. And section headings will be in bold rather than underscored.

For more information, go to the “Software” page of this site. And you’ll also need to read my tips on using the Numbering Assistant. (Note that the Numbering Assistant doesn’t work on Macs or with the Chinese or Japanese versions Word.)

On a related note, I’ve posted on the “Templates” page of this site some new templates, namely templates for the front and back of the contract (to supplement the Numbering Assistant), a template for a two-column version of the MSCD enumeration scheme, and a template for a written board consent. Each template has a counterpart sample in MSCD; consult MSCD if you have any questions regarding features incorporated in the templates.

I hope that the Numbering Assistant and the templates are of use to those seeking a simple way to use a clear and consistent layout in their contracts. Any organization that doesn’t strive for consistent layout in its contracts isn’t being as efficient as it could be.

  1. Mr. Adams,
I use 1.1, 1.1.1, etc. without letters in numbering sections. I thus avoid pages with an orphaned and untraceable (a) or (i), forcing the reader to walk backwards through document to piece together section number. Is this your position? Sorry, but can’t readily determine your protocol here. Best, Brian
